Kazakhstan is strategically bolstering its position on the global energy map with significant expansions and agreements in its oil and gas sectors. The nation’s intention to increase oil deliveries through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) to 3 million tonnes within two years marks a pivotal step in enhancing its export capabilities. This initiative follows President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s directive to elevate oil transportation through this corridor, in collaboration with SOCAR, aiming for an initial shipment of 1.5 million tonnes per year from the Tengiz field to Baku. Additionally, the throughput capacity of the Kazakh section of the CPC pipeline has been upgraded from 54 to 72.5 million tonnes per year, complemented by the ongoing expansion of the Shymkent oil refinery to meet domestic market demands fully.

Parallel to these developments, Kazakhstan has secured an extension of its agreement to transport 100,000 tonnes of oil monthly to Germany for an additional six months, up to June 2024. This extension, facilitated by a partnership with Rosneft Deutschland, now under German federal government control, underscores the mutual benefits and long-term focus of Kazakhstan’s energy relationships with European nations.

These advancements in Kazakhstan’s energy infrastructure and strategic international agreements are poised to significantly influence global energy markets and geopolitics.
